I/O - Stay Close 2 U
New York’s I/O returns with a beautiful new visual for “Stay Close 2 You.” The soulful, minimalist soundbed displays the singer-songwriter’s background in West African music with percussion through the Djembe drum, the first instrument he learned how to play. Through traditional dialect working as narration, South African-poet Lazarus Man relays a tale of an special lady friend who makes life experiences more bearable. She is called Ndongi Yamanzi, a woman symbolic to a water lily, who’s visually striking yet difficult to capture and preserve. The visual’s striking abstract black-and-white strokes are also reminiscent of exquisite mud cloth fabric.
